The media often seduces us into the false belief that things aren't what they seem and the gaming industry is riddled with media hype. In recent years video games testers got portrayed as these rich young kids who just play video games all day long.

Is this really the way it is?

Although its true for a select few games testers, for the majority this is not the case. Unless you are a highly respected games tester who works exclusively for Sony, Nintendo or UBI then you probably won't even see this glamorous lifestyle that so many thing the gaming industry is like.

For the majority of games testers however, the pay is pretty mediocre, the working hours long and tedious and the workplace over-saturated. Although that might sound like a harsh and somewhat bleak view on it, at least it will prepare you for the reality. This is a very competitive industry and unless you bring something special to the table you will just be another games tester.

There's a couple of things that distinguish fly-by-night testers and those who are serious about making a living from it. Serious testers are passionate about games. For them its more than just fun, but it's a lifestyle and something that makes them tick. They can find something interesting in every game they (have to) play and they are constantly looking for that next new game; for the next exciting challenge and for the next technological breakthrough. For them money is not the most important thing - its about doing what they love.

If you are getting into games testing for the money then you should probably stop and go to college instead. It can be a long and arduous road to the big time, but if you really love gaming then it will be a fun ride every step of the way. If you are just a "weekend gamer" then it will be hell.

Being a games tester requires more than just a passion for gaming. It obviously requires skill and if you aren't an above average gamer, then you don't stand a chance. You will also need to be a good communicator, have an eye for detail and the ability to push any game to its limits.

Source: Gaming: Console Games Articles from EzineArticles.com

Video Games For Kids

In this article I'd like to stress a little of the pros and cons of video games intended for kids, for the reason that in spite of all the off-putting press video games pick up, especially in regard to kids, I do believe there is the possibility for a lot of good.

Starting with the obvious reasons parents regularly do not allow their kids to take part in play video games, probably number one on the list is that it maybe very bad for their eyes. With the new wave of high vision television sets I'm not certain if eye harm is as bad as old-style cathode-ray tube television, but by all means it is still not all that good for the eyes, and this is not restricted to children either. It would be terrific if a tv screen might be made that wasn't so harmful... or next to least not to the degree so as to non-reversible harm it can do. So if this problem could possibly be addressed, I'm positive that this would take quite a bit of sting of the argument.

Second on the record is that video games are bad on behalf of their brains. In this regard I would have to say it depends on the game, but with the tremendous lack of accountability on the part of the game makers the destructive reputation is surely deserved. Were the quality of the games a trace superior, with a lesser amount of a degree of uncalled-for violence and destruction, perhaps parents would not be so destructive to the plan.

Third on the slant is that period spent unconsciously playing these games takes away from time that kids could be spending playing 'real' sports, studying or engaging in quality time with their acquaintances or folks. Kids are so occupied at the present time that time management has turn out to be an problem even for 2 year olds, but with a balance of proper scheduling I'm guaranteed there would not be the need to poo-poo the whole concept of kids playing these games merely on that explanation.

Source: Gaming: Console Games Articles from EzineArticles.com

Space Invaders - The Space Game Superstar

Space Invaders is the one video game that nearly everybody knows. First published by Japanese corporation Taito in 1978, it was a phenomenal hit, and goes on being successful even today, over thirty years later. Now that Warner Bros. has announced plans to make a feature film based on the game, it is a good time to recapitulate its origins.

The sole father of Space Invaders is veteran game developer Tomohiro Nishikado. He got the original idea from Atari's game Breakout, where there are layers of bricks above a player-controlled horizontally moving pad. Space Invaders can be seen as an improvement of the layout. In the place of bricks, Space Invaders has downward marching enemy layers, that the player shoots by moving a laser cannon in and out of protective bunkers, while the enemies keep dropping bombs of their own and moving faster all the time.

Originally, Nishikado envisioned this as a straightforward war game, involving shooting down airplanes, but Taito dismissed this proposal as too militaristic. At the time,Star Wars had just come out, so Nishikado thought of a space-themed game. He replaced the airplanes with a set of aliens reminiscent of crabs and other forms of sea-life. According to another story, the motivation behind the invaders was just a matter of expediency. At the time, realistic movement of airplanes was beyond the processing capacity of the Intel 8080 video game chip, whereas the blocky movement of the aliens posed no difficulty.

For the first couple of months after its release, the game went relatively unnoticed. Then all of the sudden its popularity started to soar. People were lining up to play Space Invaders, and there were arcades with nothing but Space Invaders. A legend tells that at the height of the craze, Bank of Japan had to triple the production of 100-yen coins, as so many of them disappeared into the slots of Space Invaders cabinets.

Soon it was America's turn to succumb to the invaders, when Midway licensed the game in 1979. The game spawned fan clubs, hats, T-shirts and other merchandise, as well as attracting the attention of concerned parents - could excessive playing cause wrist injury? Moreover, keeping in mind Atari's role in the formation of the game, it is only fitting that Atari would acquire exclusive rights to the console version of the game in 1980, thus doubling the sales of the Atari 2600 unit.

It is difficult to overestimate the impact of this first video game superstar. Not only was it the first video game to burst into the cultural consciousness, it was also commercial success never seen before, it was also the first Japanese game to make its way to the US, thus paving the way to Nintendo's success. Space Invaders also inspired a new breed of video game developers, whose eyes were suddenly opened to the limitless possibilities inherent in the video game genre.

Source: Gaming: Console Games Articles from EzineArticles.com

Backup PS3 Games - Easy Way to Make Copies of Your PS3 Without Spending an Arm and a Leg

Would you like to be able to backup PS3 games? I am sure you would. Many hardcore PS3 gamers can often spend hundreds to thousands of hours perfecting their skills in their favorite games. Unfortunately after some time, their game play suffers because their PS3 Cd's become scratched and defective. And now they had wished they should've backed up their PS3 games.

There are options available that will allow gamers to backup your PS3 games. When looking to backup PS3 games some look at using a mod chip. This is the first thing they think of using. It is not a good idea to use mod chips because they are complicated to install. And if you do not install it right the first time you run the risk of "bricking" your console and messing something up in the inside.

And these mod chips can be very expensive. The costs can start to add up if end up messing things up while you are trying to install it. Because of how expensive mod chips can be overall, they really defeat the purpose behind being able to backup your PS3 video games to start saving money. They have the ability to thrill and inspire a number of youngsters and today they are even being played by adults. A good one can keep you hooked to the computer for hours on end and many people usually finish them within a day or two.

The only problem with games is that they do not last forever. Once you complete it that's it, you will have to go out and buy a new one. But games don't come cheap. Depending on the type, they can be expensive or extremely expensive. So this is why people nowadays rent video games and this has become very common amongst youngsters.

If you are one of those people who loves to try out games according to different reviews found online or in magazines, you might want to try renting. Instead of spending a whole lot of money buying all those games you want to try out, you can rent the games.

Renting is not a hard process at all and definitely not expensive. All you have to do is pay a monthly subscription to an online rental store and that's it. You can then choose the one you want or find interesting, and the store will then ship the it to your address without you having to pay for shipping. Once you are done with the it, you can either keep it if you like it or return it using the prepaid mail voucher the store gives you.

Online video game rental is so much better since there is a huge collection to choose from. Normal rental stores may only keep the latest ones and the most common, and at times may not even have those because they might already be rented out. An online video rental store will provide you with the largest collection of games and not only the latest. If you want to rent ps2 games which are very hard to find in normal stores, you will certainly find it online.

So don't think twice if you're a hardcore gamer or planning to start out. Online video game rentals are the best and smartest way to get video games.

Source: Gaming: Console Games Articles from EzineArticles.com

Sony's Playstation Move: What You Need To Know

Sony recently launched PlayStation Move, the company's highly anticipated motion control system that translates your real world movements into video game moves.

Click Here To Grab yourself one free Platstation Move in This Special Giveaway

PlayStation Move is a handheld controller with a glowing orb on the top that works in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye camera to track video game movements like punches, sword strokes, and tennis racket swings. The PSMove also has regular controller buttons for shooting games that require you to pull a trigger.

PlayStation Move was introduced under its official name on Wednesday at the 2010 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The announcement followed last year's sneak peek at Sony's motion control system during the E3 conference.

Here's what you need to know about the PSMove:

When will PlayStation Move be available?

PSMove will be released worldwide in late 2010, but Sony hasn't announced a specific date yet.

How will the PlayStation Move be bundled?

There are three ways you will be able to buy PSMove: a starter pack that includes the PlayStation Eye, PSMove, and a game; stand-alone controllers for people who already own a PlayStation Eye; or part of a full PS3 console pack including the console, PSMove wands, and the PlayStation Eye camera. (It's unclear whether the PSMove console bundle will also come with Dual Shock controllers.)

How Much Does PSMove Cost?

There's no firm price yet, but the starter pack will cost less than $100, according to Sony Computer Entertainment America's Senior Vice President of Marketing Peter Dille.

Are there any peripheral add-ons you can get for Move?

Sony has developed a second wand called the sub-controller. The sub-controller has an analog control stick that you hold in one hand while your other hand is busy using the PSMove wand. This will allow you to easily move your in-game avatars around for action games like SOCOM.

Source: Find Articles, Free Articles Directory | Video Games Articles

Shadow Complex Breaks Sales Record On Xbox Live

Shadow Complex has sold 200,000 copies since the game went live August 19, making it the most downloaded single-player title in Xbox Live Arcade history. The game has garnered rave reviews since its release and has been compared to the likes of Super Metroid and Castlevania. Located under the PlayStation Network icon, the addition displays the latest news and videos broken up in screens. Click on one of the screens and it will take you directly to its source. If there is a video featured, the video launches immediately upon selection. It will also display games last played on the PS3 for easy launch. Other shortcuts include the PlayStation Store icon, which now also appears underneath the Game and Video icons as shortcuts to games and videos featured in the store.
At the upper right hand corner of the screen you’ll now find an indicator bar displaying your user icon, a friend icon displaying the number of your friends online, a mail icon that displays when you receive new messages, and a scrolling news ticker underneath. This makes it easier to track activity on the PlayStation Network as it is no longer buried in the XMB.
With the firmware update comes more options to personalize your PS3. There are finally more avatars to choose from. This includes free and premium avatars available for download. In addition, dynamic developer-created themes are available that feature full movement of characters in the theme, as well as backgrounds changing based on night and day. Both avatars and these new dynamic themes are available through the PlayStation Store.
Finally, the update gives game developers the ability to modify the way trophies are displayed. Base and add-on game trophies will still be combined into a single list so you can gauge where you stand in a game as a whole. You can also break these lists into base and add-on trophies to separately track your progress in add-ons.

Make Money On Twitter

Make Money On Twitter:

Let me tell you this program works! It is set up to be non-spammy and you wont lose followers either. The company that runs it is very professional as you will see when working with them. It is set up so that the more followers you have the bigger offers you are going to get from advertisers. This is not some get rich quick scheme, but if you are looking for a way to put extra cash in your pocket this is the ticket. You will have lots of fun making money on twitter as I am! I have been with Sponsored tweets since their debut about a month ago and now receive offers from advertisers everyday. You will not find yourself sitting at the computer for hours trying to figure this thing out, they email you or direct message you on twitter when you have an offer. Give it a try and please post a comment here on how it works out for you.

P.S. When setting your price don't be greedy(If your price is too high you won't get any offers). Get yourself established first with some offers. Don't go with their "suggested" price, you will wait a long, long time before getting any offers if you do! ;)

Brett Favre, Michael Vick to be added to Madden 2010 Update.

Brett Favre, Michael Vick to be added to Madden 2010 Update.

Set to August 19th, the update will include Michael Vick (73 rating on game) and Brett Favre (82 rating on game)

Based on EA's "If it's in the game, it's in the game" slogan, one can only assume that if you're using the Vikings in franchise mode, you can fully expect Favre to retire at the end of your first season, be trailed relentlessly by Rachel Nichols, be featured in a series of recurring B-roll footage of him tossing lob passes to Hattiesburg high schoolers only to return just as you were thinking to yourself, "Wow. You will have the game you select in your mailbox the next day(unless you order after 4pm, I think). You can keep the game for as long as you want. Just remember to put the game back in the pre-paid envelope and send it back when your done with it. Then 2-3 days later you will receive the next game on your list. This is a trial, you will have enough time to get a game try it for a week and send it back with no extra fees charged to your credit card. So if you decide Gamefly isn't for you just make sure to cancel it before the 10th day and you will have nothing to worry about. This is a big company, not some low life trying to get your credit card information just to make a buck off of you. I loved the service and decided to keep it. Have Fun! Turn off automatic downloads. Too much stress on the xbox over time.

2. Don't cover the air holes. Keep your xbox off the carpet and onto a table off the ground. Let it breathe!

3. Use an inter cooler like nyko, but remember the more air moving through the xbox the faster dust will pile up. If you use an inter cooler take a can of compressed air to it once a week. If you don't use an inter cooler blow it out with a compressed air can once every couple weeks.

4. Alway set your xbox horizontal. Never upright. If your xbox is upright, your chances of scratched games is inevitable. Laying it horizontal will prevent this problem.

5. Final piece of advice, don't leave your xbox turned on for days at a time. Doing so will only shorten the life because it is constantly working.
